Hunger in Canada
One in eight Canadians is affected by food insecurity and 35% of those relying on food banks nationally are children. Through the KFC Harvest Program our restaurants donate their surplus chicken to local charities across Canada providing essential protein that is needed for balanced meals.
Since 2016, our restaurants have donated more than 182k pounds of food to 241 unique charities across the country.
Sustainability
Harvest not only helps people in need by addressing food insecurity but also creates a healthier and safer environment around the globe by addressing food waste. When food is disposed in a landfill, it quickly breaks down and becomes a significant source of methane – a potent greenhouse gas with 21 times the global warming potential of carbon dioxide. Landfills are a major source of human-related methane in Canada. By donating our surplus chicken, we are reducing, recovering, and recycling product while helping those in need.
KFC is dedicated to feeding people, not landfills. It is our responsibility and privilege to bring awareness to this issue.

For more than 20 years, our Harvest program has fought hunger by collaborating with local community charities and donating our remaining chicken to those that need it most.
In Canada, we continue to expand. By the end of 2019, all eligible restaurants across the country will take part. When fully in flight, we will provide 200,000 meals and $3 million worth of chicken each year.
